I’m officially married as of July 1st! Which means I can finally share my cat-friendly bridal photos as well as my not-so-secret weapon for getting cat pee out of your wedding dress, but more on that later.

I recently found out that formal bridal shoots are more of a Southern tradition. However, there’s nothing formal or traditional about this shoot. If you know me even in the slightest, then it comes as no surprise to you that my cats be a part of my bridal shoot. After all, I included them in my engagement shoot, so it only seemed natural that they be a part of these photos as well.

WHAT SHOOTING BRIDAL PHOTOS WITH CATS IS LIKE

For my bridals I rented The Lumen Room, a beautiful historic loft with large industrial windows overlooking the city and white-washed walls and floors that gave the room a subtle glow. When I pictured how I wanted my bridals to be, they were pretty much spot on to the precious moments that Micahla Vaughn flawlessly captured here. There was no shortage of cats on my train, lots of cuddles, and of course cat hair everywhere. There was only one thing I wasn’t really expecting that day — that being a puddle of cat pee right in the center of the train of my dress.

MY REACTION TO CAT PEE ON MY WEDDING DRESS

Full disclosure, this is totally my fault. I didn’t blame Leon from the moment that it happened. Especially since he had been trying to tell me he needed to go, but with our limited time in the studio I had ignored his requests. So in a desperate attempt to get my attention he went on my train to let me know loud and clear that this couldn’t wait any longer. Messaged received buddy, next time I’ll do better and listen to you.

The whole scene was just plain comical, we were only about halfway through the shoot. My sweet photographer was such a good sport about the whole thing, she went and found a mop, and we diluted the spot with some water. Finally we both looked at each other with a mix of shock and irony trying to figure out what to do next. Not to be bummed out by a little cat pee, we decided to keep shooting – after all that’s what Photoshop is for, right?

MY ADVICE - NEXT TIME BRING A LITTER BOX

The rest of the shoot went on without issue. Although we couldn’t stop laughing as I spun around in my dress wafting the smell of cat pee around the room and giggling about how care-free we were about the whole thing. But somehow I just knew everything would be fine and all that mattered was that my cats were okay and having a good time – and they did after Leon had done his business. As I predicted it all worked out in the end, I called a wedding dress cleaner and it came out without issue. I can say without a doubt that these are going to be irreplaceable memories and stories for years to come and I’m glad I was able to capture them. I highly recommend doing something like this with your cat(s) – maybe just bring a litter-box along.
