This post is a paid partnership with The Meow Picks. Together we’re exploring cat-friendly solutions for modern cat furniture, particularly ones that may be harder to come by in the United States from smaller European makers.

‍

Have you ever considered your cat’s taste? Not just in the design sense, but in the way they take up space. There are three different types of cats based on how they prefer to occupy a room: the tree, bush and beach dweller.

‍

What is your cat’s taste?

Spend some time watching where you cat lounges. If it's out in the open, they are probably a beach dweller. If they spent their time searching for the highest perch, they are likely a tree dweller. And, of course if your cat likes to lounge (not hide) in boxes or cubbies—where they can see but not be seen—they are a bush dweller.

‍

Once we notice these types of tendencies in our cats, we can make informed decisions about what types of furniture they will actually use.

‍

What cat furniture should I buy for my cat’s preference?

One thing I’ve noticed is that European makers are adopting an entirely different mindset when it comes to modern cat furniture.

‍

However, like many of my readers, Cat Therapy is based in the United States. During my research, I often come across overseas companies creating incredible modern options, and I have always wished it were easier to get these products here. I’m pleased to have recently found The Meow Picks, a company who is making it easier for cat guardians in the US to purchase from small makers in Europe.

‍

Below are a few popular options I haven’t seen in the US that are both functional and beautiful for a modern home aesthetic.

H-Tree Studio’s H3 Cat Scratching Tree

Is your cat a tree dweller? Are they always trying to find the highest cabinet or windowsill? Then, this unconventional, modern cat tree may be just what they are looking for. Covered in sisal for scratching vertical surfaces (instead of your couch) and felt for traction, there’s a lot to love about this cat-friendly ladder by H-Tree Studio. The frame comes in three color ways—natural, black, and white—and is a great addition whether you have multiple cats or just one who likes to survey their territory from above.

Labbvenn’s Kikko Table

Is your cat more of a bush dweller? If so, they will probably prefer this sling-style hammock and table for lounging from below. The Kikko Table comes in four colorways to create the optimum Scandinavian piece, whether you want a pop of color with raspberry or honey, or a more neutral tone like anthracite or light grey.

Labilla’s Nuvola Plus Small Pet Bed

Speaking of color ways and styles,I think the Nuvola Pet Bed could fit a variety of styles from mid-century modern to Scandinavian. The base and cushion come in 12 different colorway combinations to match almost any color palette.

‍

This pet bed is a great option for a senior cat or a beach dweller. Having versatile furniture that matches your interior is a huge plus when you’re trying to blend pieces into your existing space and design style—and your stylish cat will look extra comfy lounging on it.

Want more interior design-approved picks?

These are just three of the modern cat brands that even an interior designer would approve of. I’ve also always admired brands like Micara from afar, but could never justify the overseas shipping costs. Now, these designs and others are finally within reach.

For more cat-friendly brands featuring modern styles, I recommend checking out The Meow Picks.
